Red-shafted subspecies

 

The flicker is a part of the woodpecker family. The only time we see them is when I have the peanut butter feeders up. I use either stout pine cones or a mesh bag from vegetables hung on the fence or eves. Since I put corn meal in it and raisins, they are definitely there for their share. They are an aggressive bird so when they come into feed the other birds leave the pinecones and go back to the regular feeders.
